It's pretty sad that I can recall exactly where I was when I heard of the trades that landed Hextall, LeClair, Dionne & Recchi.

I was in Virginia at the time, and I could pick up 1060 KYW. I was driving from my apartment to the base I was on temporary duty at, and I just flipped to KYW to cope with a flash of homesickness and heard the Hextall news.

The Recchi trade, I heard at work. I guy I was stationed with was from Maple Shade, and he got a call from his brother with the news. I remember the next game they got shutout 3-0

The Nicest part of the Kings Cup win this past year was a Kings fan in NY putting the Kings hat on the 9/11 memorial for their 2 fallen scouts.....that brought tears to my eyes.

There were a lot of allusions to the terrorist climate in those movies for sure. Shame that great movies can't undue horrible and senseless acts of violence.

The 94/95 season was a helluva ride. My fondest memory of that season has to be dethroning the reigning champs in 4 straight. Especially that first game where the Flyers found themselves in a big hole in game 1. Always felt like those 90's were a player away. Have a good day everyone.

Very good read and reminder of all that occured at that time.

I just received my ticket package for the upcoming season and am sad about the current prospects of the season starting soon. I am also very desperate for Hockey to start. It has been waaaay to long.

A Bruins fan on another forum I visit posted the letter he received regarding the lockout:

Dear XXXXXX,

As you may be aware, the NHL and NHLPA are currently engaged in negotiating a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The current agreement is set to expire on September 15, 2012.

As a valued Season Ticket Holder, I want to make you aware of contingency plans in place should an agreement not be reached in this timeframe. In the event a work stoppage occurs, I would like to offer you the following options regarding your season ticket investment for the 2012-13 season in appreciation of your loyalty.

Option #1: Loyalty Program
You may elect to earn a 3% APR credit on the ticket money for games missed. In electing this option all ticket money and credit from games missed must stay on account. By choosing this option you will be committing to renew your season tickets for the 2013-14 season and you will lock in a price freeze on your season tickets for the 2013-14 season.

Option #2: Monthly Refund
You may elect to earn a 1% APR credit on the ticket money for games missed and receive monthly refunds on the ticket money for games missed. Your 1% APR credit from games missed will stay on account.

Should a work stoppage occur, you will receive an email after the September 15 deadline with additional details on how to select one of the options above.

If you have questions regarding these options or the status of your account, please refer to these frequently asked questions or contact your Fan Relations Representative.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Cam Neely
President
Boston Bruins

Here's an interesting article about the founding of the Flyers and building of the Spectrum that I'd never heard. I guess I've been soaking in the Flyers propaganda all my life and never heard the real story.

*Edit-

It amazed me that all the hype about building the Spectrum and acquiring the Flyers franchise it always sounds like Snider was in charge of the whole thing. Now I find out he eventually purchased the Spectrum out of bankruptcy.

I was waiting for somebody to point that out

Oh, also, how rude of me! Happy birthday Mr. Meltzer, and as always thanks for satiating our hunger for hockey reading on a daily basis, especially through the offseason and into the lockout.

My favorite trade in flyers history.

As a side note with Claude Giroux on the cover of NHL13 today. I felt equally as good when Recchi was traded back to us for Zubras. On this day was the first time I played NHL99 with Eric Lindros on the cover. I even held a lockout of my own against a buddy who was a hans fan until he made this trade with me before we played. Back then on N64, we didn't have roster updates.
